The eve of 26 August

I always knew that love would come find me you caught me off guard and took me by surprise but you simply captivated me, the same way you do when I look into your eyes So in depth, hold on with all of my might Waiting in the rain, a cold winter night Inhale, exhale Calm as I am Hair blowing in the wind As you take my hand My eyes they close; As I breathe in deep You run through my mind And my life is complete I wake to the touch of a morning sun, Softly teasing my eyes apart I feel your arms tighten around Sealing yet another, Non existent space… At a dark dark time you were sent to me To shed some light on my weakening being I held on tight to your secure hands As you pulled me out of a painful mess… I found the smile I thought I had lost I found love so serene and pure I found your eyes so full of care As it healed so well my bruised soul

It had been a good night

How smiling the World's Prospect lies How tempting to go through ! Not Canaan to the Prophet's Eyes, From Pisgah with a sweet Surprise, Did more inviting shew. How promising the Book of Fate, Till thoroughly understood! Whilst partial Hopes such Lots create, As may the youthful Fancy treat With all that's Great and Good. How soft the first Ideas prove, Which wander through our Minds! How full the Joys, how free the Love, Which does that early Season move; As Flowers the Western Winds! Our Sighs are then but Vernal Air; But April–drops our Tears, Which swiftly passing, all grows Fair, Whilst Beauty compensates our Care, And Youth each Vapor clears. But oh! too soon, alas, we climb; Scarce feeling we ascend The gently rising Hill of Time, From whence with Grief we see that Prime, And all its Sweetness end. The Die now ca...

Death

O King of Terrors, whose unbounded sway All that have Life, must certainly Obey; The King, the Priest, the Prophet, all are Yours, No one in flesh your stroke decline. My name is on the roll, and sure I must  Increase your gloomy kingdom in the dust. My soul at this no apprehension feels, But trembles at your swords, your racks, your wheels; Your scorching fevers, which distract the sense, And snatch us raving, unprepared from this; At your contagious darts, that wound the heads Of weeping friends, who wait at dying beds. Spare these, and let your time be when it will; My business is to die, and Yours to kill. Gently your fatal scepter on me lay, And take to your cold arms, insensibly, your prey
